Imitrex for migraine headaches
Migraines and other types of headaches, such as tension headache and sinus headache can be real disasters. They are painful, cause discomfort, pounding headache, nausea, vomiting, and light sensitivity.

One of the most effective medicines used for migraine headaches and cluster headaches is Imitrex. It belongs to the drug class called triptans. The main component of Imitrex is sumatriptan.
Sumatriptan reduces chemicals in the body that can provoke headache pain, nausea, sensitivity to light and sound, and other migraine symptoms. The medicine treats migraine attacks, but does not prevent them.
Imitrex should not be used to cope with other types of headaches unless your doctor recommends it for you.
The use of the medicine is prohibited in patients with hypertension which is poorly controlled, certain heart rhythm disorders, a history of heart attack or stroke.
For patients, who have consumed MAO inhibitors and/ or other antidepressants in the past two weeks, Imitrex should not be prescribed.
Before using Imitrex, a doctor should be aware of all the conditions of a patient such as chronic illnesses or acute diseases. Besides, there are risk factors for patients with diabetes, menopause, obesity, high cholesterol, coronary artery disease and others.
Consume Imitrex exactly as prescribed by a doctor. Dose for you is calculated individually with respect to your medical history and your condition.
Use Imitrex medication as soon as first headache symptoms appear.
Imitrex tablet should be used whole with water. After taking a tablet, wait for two hours before taking a second tablet. Do not take more than 200 mg of Imitrex in 24 hours.
Imitrex in nasal spray should be used exactly as your doctor prescribes it to you. Do not use Imitrex spray in more than mg dose in hours.
Imitrex tablet form dose for adult patients for migraine management is 25 mg, 50 mg and 100 mg. Initially the dose prescribed for most patients is 25 mg. If the symptoms do not disappear the dose can be increased. Maximum dose is 200 mg per day.
Intranasal form of Imitrex comes in doses of 5 mg, 10 mg and 20 mg and is applied directly into each nostril as a single spray. The second dose is possible after two hours past the first dose is applied. Maximum dose for this form of medicine is 40 mg per day.
